CGRP INHIBITORS FOR MIGRAINE ( MIGRAINE VACCINE)

WHAT IS MIGRAINE VACCINE (INJECTION)? FOR WHICH PATIENTS IS IT SUITABLE?

The migraine vaccine (injection) is not actually a vaccine.
It is a monoclonal antibody that blocks the binding site of a substance called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP).
CGRP is a substance found in the brain and nervous system that has a vasodilating effect when secreted. CGRP increases in the blood during headache attacks such as migraine and cluster headache, falls when the attack resolves, and causes headaches when used in experimental studies.

For which patients is the migraine vaccine suitable?

CGRP receptor blocker drugs; It is used in both chronic migraine, episodic migraine patients and people with cluster headaches.

Satisfactory results are obtained in patients who have not responded to other migraine medications or who have side effects to the medications used, and in patients with chronic migraine due to excessive use of painkillers.

How is the migraine vaccine used?

Treatment with CGRP receptor blockers; It is administered as a subcutaneous injection once a month. Since these drugs have their own special injector system for application, our patients can continue their treatment at home after the first dose.
